Desired outcomes: Clear understanding of the regional perceptions of threat and some concrete and realistic policy proposals.

09.15 Welcome and Introduction to Meeting

09.30 Regional and National Threats to Security
This session will draw out the main threats to security in the region
 
11.30 Root Causes and Interconnections
This session will tease out the interconnectedness of the threats and identify the underlying root causes which link individual threats
 
13.45 Current Policy Responses: Regional and International / Blockages to Change
In this session the discussion will focus on current regional and international policy responses to the threats identified in the morning sessions. Which responses are only controlling the threats and which responses are trying to address the root causes? What blockages are preventing these threats from being tackled at their roots?
 
16.00 Possible Changes to Policy Responses: Regional & National & International
This session will explore where there are possibilities to influence policy, including identifying landing points for a sustainable security approach or a shift in emphasis from controlling the threats to tackling the root causes. An assessment will be made regarding which root causes are the most viable to tackle given current political realities in the region.
