La participación femenina en los procesos de negociación de conflictos y la protección de la mujer frente a todo tipo de violencia es vital para fortalecer una democracia real y alcanzar la paz duradera.

En lugares donde el conflicto amenaza la seguridad de la población civil, los países contribuyentes de tropas y policías a misiones de paz de Naciones Unidas necesitan desarrollar nuevas capacidades para prevenir y combatir las situaciones de violencia basada en el género que se presenten en el terreno.





La ONU reconoce por primera vez que la violencia sexual, cuando es utilizada como arma de guerra, pone en peligro la seguridad internacional.
