Webinar | UN Efforts to
Address Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in Peace Operations: Challenges and
Opportunities
RESDAL
International invites you to participate in the webinar “UN Efforts to Address Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in Peace
Operations: Challenges and Opportunities”, which will take place on Monday, June 30, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm (EST). The session
will be held online, with simultaneous interpretation in English and Spanish.
This
event is part of the Dialogue Series
“Intercontinental Conversations from the Global South”, organized by RESDAL
under the project “Women in Peace
Operations: Supporting Inclusive Environments through Interregional
Collaboration and National Engagement”, supported by Global Affairs Canada through the Elsie Initiative.
The
webinar will focus on the United Nations’ long-term efforts to combat sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) in
the context of peace operations. It will explore current initiatives, policy
reforms developed over the years, protocols established, and accountability
mechanisms aimed at preventing and responding to these serious violations.
The
session will feature a keynote address by Christian
Saunders, United Nations Special Coordinator on Improving UN Response to
Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. In addition, military personnel and experts from
the Global South will provide comments and share their perspectives and
experiences from the field.
By
analyzing key challenges and the progress made to date, this event will offer
an opportunity to reflect on the vital role played by both international and
national actors in strengthening and implementing effective prevention and
response frameworks to address SEA.
The webinar is particularly relevant
to those engaged in and following the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, for whom this remains a strategic
space for reflection and action in building safer and more inclusive peace
operations.
Participation
is free of charge, with prior registration required.
