RESDAL Participates in the XVII General Assembly of
ALCOPAZ
The Latin
American Security and Defense Network (RESDAL) took part in the Annual
Conference and XVII General Assembly of the Latin American Association of Peace
Operations Training Centers (ALCOPAZ), held in Cartagena de Indias at the end
of November 2025.
ALCOPAZ
brings together the region’s leading training centers dedicated to preparing
personnel for peace operations. Since its creation, it has become a key
cooperation mechanism within the Global South, working to strengthen common
standards, promote professional exchange, and enhance Latin America’s
collective contribution to international peace operations.
Within
this framework, RESDAL was represented by Dr. Nathalie Pabón, who delivered the
presentation “Gender Integration in Peace Operations” on Thursday, November 27,
as recorded in the official program.
Her
presentation underscored the importance of incorporating a gender perspective
across all phases of peace operations, highlighting both good practices and
persistent challenges encountered in the field.
During her
intervention, Dr. Pabón also shared progress from the project supported by
Global Affairs Canada, developed under the initiative “Women in Peace
Operations: Supporting Inclusive Environments through Interregional
Collaboration and National-Level Engagement.” She presented preliminary
achievements related to capacity building, the generation of regional evidence,
and the strengthening of cooperation networks among Global South actors.
In
addition, RESDAL expressed its satisfaction at seeing that inputs from its
latest Comparative Atlas of Defense were used in this regional setting —
an acknowledgment of the publication’s value as a comparative analytical tool
supporting decision-making in security, defense, and peace operations.
RESDAL’s
participation in ALCOPAZ reaffirms its commitment to institutional
strengthening, international cooperation, and the advancement of Latin American
leadership within the global peace and security agenda.
