RESDAL regrets the passing of Dr. Margaret Daly Hayes
It is with deep sorrow that we announce
the passing of Dr. Margaret Daly Hayes, a renowned figure in the field of
hemispheric defence and security. She was a pioneering professional and a key
contributor to the development of the defence sector in the region. Her work
helped raise the standards of analysis and practice in this field, and her invaluable
legacy will remain with all those who had the honor and pleasure of knowing
her, as well as in our professional community through the impact of her
contributions.
Margaret had a distinguished and widely
respected career. She was the first director of the Perry Center for
Hemispheric Defense Studies, where she played a central role in shaping the
lines of work and analysis related to defence cooperation in the Americas. She
was a member of RESDAL’s Board and a tireless advocate for strengthening relations
with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Her expertise in political
economy and in U.S.–Latin America security relations established her as a
leading specialist in the field.
RESDAL extends its condolences to her family,
colleagues, and all who had the opportunity to work alongside her throughout
her career.
