Uruguay and the drive towards women’s involvement in peacekeeping operations

The initiative comprises various components, namely:

1. A Questionaire for data collection whose answers are based on legislation, plans, internal regulations and media reports, as well as on interviews.

2. Interviews to key officials and informants.

3. A Survey of 380 people from military and or police institutions. The sample is randomized and representative. Both men and women, senior and junior personnel, are interviewed. The survey takes into consideration the geographic distribution and contains around three hundred questions to be answered individually by each respondent in confidentiality during an interview with a surveyor.

Uruguay is the only case that implemented the survey both in the three Armed Forces as well as in the National Police, reaching a total number of 760 surveys across the entire country.

4. A report based on data collected.

5. The validation of results, performed with national institutions.
