Introducción: Investigación de RESDAL en DRC

This visit takes place within the framework of RESDAL?s gender program, that is currently implementing the project ?Improving and sharing Latin American gender approach to peacekeeping within the framework of UNSCR 1325 and 1820? with the financial support of the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
After the completion of other projects undertaken by the Network with the purpose of contributing to the dissemination and implementation of UNSCR 1325 and 1820, and the publication of the book ?Women in the Armed and Police Forces: Resolutions 1325 and Peace Operations in Latin America?, the current project has the general objective to promote the continuation and improvement of Latin American efforts to the prevention and protection of victims of gender based violence in conflict settings through the recollection, systematization and sharing of its peacekeepers experiences on the field. It is for this purpose that RESDAL is planning to visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to carry out field research that would gather peacekeepers? experiences and lessons learned about the impact of sexual violence in conflict settings. This information is intended to be used to raise awareness about the importance of peacekeeping contributions and practices amongst Latin American political and social actors of different countries of the region. The research aims to extract and analyze the perspective of peacekeepers and MONUSCOs mission staff, taking into account that the DRC is one of the most affected countries regarding conflict-related gender based violence, and also where Latin American presence is most observed.
