Webinar | The Future of the WPS Agenda: A Crisis or
an Opportunity?
RESDAL
International and Monash University invite you to join the webinar “The Future of the WPS Agenda: A Crisis or
an Opportunity?”, taking place on Tuesday,
August 5, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 9:00
AM (EST). The session will be held virtually, with simultaneous interpretation in English and Spanish.
This
event is part of the series “Interregional
Conversations from the Global South”, organized by RESDAL within the
framework of the project “Women in Peace
Operations: Supporting Inclusive Environments through Interregional
Collaboration and National Engagement”, supported by Global Affairs Canada through the Elsie Initiative.
Over
the course of an hour, military personnel and experts from the Global South
will engage in an open exchange to
reflect on the current state of the Women,
Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.
The
webinar is framed around the following question: “As the world evolves, with global and local challenges rising and
becoming multi-faceted, there are questions regarding the current state of the
WPS Agenda. Is the WPS agenda, as we currently know it, coming to an end, or is
a strategic shift needed to address emerging challenges, an evolving world in
peacekeeping, and national priorities that are more focused on conventional
defence issues?”
The
conversation will be moderated by Dr.
Eleanor Gordon, Associate Professor at Monash University and a prominent
scholar and practitioner in the WPS field. Opening remarks will be delivered by
a representative from RESDAL.
Confirmed
participants include:
● Colonel Dr. Kulwant Kumar Sharma, Visiting Fellow, United Service Institution of
India
● Colonel (Ret.) Roberto Gil, Presidential Advisor, International Association of Peacekeeping
Training Centres (IAPTC)
● Dr. Fiifi Edu-Afful, Senior
Researcher and Pillar Coordinator at PACAV, UNIDIR
The
discussion will draw on field experience and explore the institutional and
political dynamics shaping WPS implementation today, as well as the potential
of interregional collaboration as a driver for meaningful change.
This
webinar is especially relevant for peacekeeping personnel, gender and security
practitioners, and all those committed to advancing inclusive, accountable
peace operations.
Participation
is free of charge, but registration is required.
