The French version of RESDAL’s dossier of the International Seminar “Uniformed Women and Peace Operations” is now available
The dossier with the main findings and
discussions from the International Seminar “Uniformed Women and Peace Operations: Progress and Challenges in
Creating Safe and Inclusive Environments”, held in October 2024 in Brasília, is now available in French.
The seminar
brought together 30 participants from 11 countries and 17 institutions, with an
interregional scope that included Latin America and the Caribbean, North
America, Asia, Africa, and the MENA region. Participants included
representatives from the United Nations, ministries of defense, armed forces,
embassies, prosecutors’ offices, civil society organizations, and academia.
The dossier
compiles presentations and conclusions from the panels, highlighting key topics
such as:
Continuous
leadership training for the prevention of sexual harassment and abuse.
The need to
align national policies with international standards.
Strengthening
reporting and investigation mechanisms.
Creating
networks and mentorship spaces to support the professional development of women
in the armed forces and in peace operations.
This action
is part of the project “Women in
Peace Operations: Supporting Inclusive Environments through Interregional Collaboration
and National Engagement”,
supported by the Elsie Initiative of Global Affairs Canada. Launched in July 2023
and running until March 2026, the project seeks to promote safe and inclusive
environments for women in the security forces of Global South countries that
contribute troops and police to United Nations peace operations.
