RESDAL
International releases the third issue of the Security and Defence Monitor
The
third issue of the Security and Defence Monitor (January 2026) is now
available. This publication of the Latin American Security and Defence Network
(RESDAL) is dedicated to the critical, in-depth analysis of today’s key
challenges in security, defence, and regional cooperation.
Launched
in 2025, the Security and Defence Monitor is a platform for reflection
and informed debate, bringing together
contributions from civilian and military specialists. Its objective is to
provide strategic insights for decision-makers, analysts, academics, and
institutional stakeholders, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the
dynamics shaping peace, security, and defence in Latin America and the
Caribbean, as well as globally.
In
this edition, the Security and Defence Monitor presents four authorial
perspectives that directly engage with the regional agenda. Dolores Bermeo Lara
examines the scope and implications of the mandate of the Gang Suppression
Force in Haiti; Rosario Rodríguez Cuitiño explores the role of the Armed Forces
in responding to the advance of organized crime; Juan José Reyes Martínez
analyzes the challenges of bilateral cooperation and confidence-building
mechanisms between Colombia and Ecuador in the face of transnational threats
along the Amazon border; and Carlos Madruga reflects on the accelerated
expansion of transnational organized crime in Uruguay and the potential inflection
points the country is facing.
The Security
and Defence Monitor continues to consolidate its position as a key
reference for strategic analysis and reflection in Latin America and the
Caribbean. The third issue (January 2026) is now available through RESDAL’s
institutional channels. Available in Spanish only.
